The medical devices and pharmaceuticals industries are both enjoying strong growth with greater prospects to come. It is crucial for those in this sector or wishing to enter it, to be empowered with an in-depth knowledge of the factors affecting these industries. Companies that possess a deep understanding of the market size, forecasts, competitive landscapes and relevant information will have an edge over their competitors. They will need, however, to keep up to date with the global shifts in order to capitalize on the emerging trends, and thus be able to make the appropriate operational and investment decisions.

Where can this information be found? Where can SMEs find the latest trends and who can they turn to for updated, relevant analyses and forecasts? This seminar seeks to answer these questions. Information consultants will not only give participants an overview of the industries in the medical sector and their growth prospects, but also help equip them with the necessary skills to seek the answers to these critical questions.

Mr Ronnie Tan, EBIS Info-Consultant, has conducted research into trends and development in emerging markets for the medical, healthcare which include programmes such as smoking cessation, knowledge management and wage support in the industry. For the past five years, he has researched and packaged industry and policy alerts related to the health sector. Prior to his current posting, he has served as a Librarian in the Bukit Merah Community Library. He moved on to a junior college library and then to the Marine Fisheries Research Department Library where he helped with organisational information management and set up a database on aquaculture and fisheries post-harvest technology. He moved on to serve as a Reference Librarian with the Information Packaging group in the Service Delivery and Prototyping Division, and later as a Reference Librarian with the then National Reference Library. Currently attached to the Publishing and Research Division. Ronnie has extensive expertise for information on policies and industry development of the life sciences and biotechnology Industry. He has supported research clients at the Ministry of Health, Health Promotion Board and other ministries. His research interests cover business and policy research on life sciences, food production, fisheries, political violence and terrorism research.
