Programme Introduction
Presently valued at US$20 billion and expected to double to US$40 billion in the next three years, medical tourism is indeed a rapidly growing industry. In 2006 alone, more than 1.75 million visitors from America came to India, Singapore and Thailand to seek medical and healthcare services. However, the medical tourism market is not just restricted to patients from the developed countries. With Asian population expected to grow to 5.6 billion by 2050, the consumer expenditure on healthcare services and goods will be expected to generate US$188 billion in 2013. Malaysia is targeting the Middle East and China to generate US$0.68 billion by 2010. These emerging markets prove that there is immense potential in the Asian healthcare business and it will see a stupendous growth.
Thus, in the competitive landscape of medical tourism, everyone is looking for an edge. Governments are collaborating for mutual benefit; hospitals are creating incentives to retain their best medical talent; and travel agents and hospitality providers are forming partnerships and offering value-added packages to secure a share of this growing pie.
In the aim of gaining a share of this competitive market, it is imperative for investors to understand the market landscape as well as the key drivers and challenges behind this booming industry sector. In this seminar, our speaker seeks to discuss the latest market trends, business opportunities and challenges within the Asia Pacific medical tourism industry.
